Chapter Twenty-five

“You mean to tell me all them fuckin’ guns we got, not one of them has a drop of blood on it? What, y’all niggas scared, or do I need to hire some real guns?” Trey was yelling at the top of his lungs into the speakerphone. He had just gotten the call about Dilla being killed, and yet nothing had happened in return.

“Trey, we’re on it. We got everybody from east to west combing the streets,” said Lee-Mac.

“Fuck combing! Mothafucka, I want ’em raked, and I want bodies bagged. Don’t call my phone with no more sob stories. I don’t give a fuck who else dies. Just find those niggas, and get it done!” Trey picked up the receiver, then slammed it down hard in Lee-Mac’s ear.

Trey was fuming because his Money Squad Family was losing the war, and they were over 500 strong versus two niggas: Krazy and Wink. Not only was Trey losing the war, he was losing money, because he still hadn’t patched things up with Junior abut Sammy’s murder. Trey wondered how long he would be able to keep his MS movement going without drugs to generate the money they all quickly had grown accustomed to blowing.

Trey was hiding out at his mansion in St. Clair Shores while he waited for the smoke to clear. He knew just what Krazy was capable of doing, and he didn’t want any part of it. He just hoped that when the smoke cleared, his team would be the ones left standing. In the meantime, though, Trey was going to continue doing what he did best, and that was hide.

He kicked his feet up on the cherrywood desk and pulled a stogy from the inside pocket of the burgundy smoking jacket he wore. He set fire to the cigar while pulling in the thick cloud of smoke. He leaned against the headrest of the chair and began blowing rings of smoke to the ceiling. Trey could see Wink being laid to rest, his coffin being lowered into the ground, while he stood beside Wink’s mom, consoling her. Trey told himself that was the way it had to be. Things would never be the same again.

“You never could accept the fact that I was my own man, could you? Everything always had to be Wink’s way, always!” Trey nodded in agreement with his twisted plot. He took another pull from the stogy, then said, “Yeah, well, let’s see if you can’t plan your own funeral.”
